This car park is a short walking distance from the town centre and the canal tow path which leads to the main entrance of the woods at The Old Sawmill (approximately 1/4 a mile away). We recommend this route for first time visitors however it's also useful to know that parking at the castle provides direct access to the upper path in the woodland through The Bailey Entrance. You will find this entrance gate by leaving the car park on foot and turning left.
Market days - Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 10am- 4pm
For over 900 years Skipton Castle has stood firm through wars and sieges at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. Once home to the famous Clifford Lords, it is one of the best preserved and most complete medieval castles in England. Fully roofed, it is a fascinating and delightful place to explore in any season – from the atmospheric Dungeon to the great Watch Tower, from the Chapel to the beautiful Conduit Court. The Castle stands at the head of the bustling award winning High street of this unspoilt market town.
